Linkstars takes no outside capital and no contract work. Everything we make, we own and operate; everything we back, we back with our own money. Both of those are choices about who we are accountable to.
Why the company is shaped this way
Software companies tend to answer to whoever funds them. Take institutional money and you inherit a growth curve and a timetable; take contract work and you inherit somebody else’s roadmap. Both are legitimate, and both quietly decide what the software becomes long before anybody writes a line of it.
We wanted the accountability to run in one direction only — toward the people using the thing. That is why Linkstars is self-funded, why we operate what we build instead of shipping it and moving on, and why the investing we do is off our own balance sheet rather than out of a fund with somebody else’s clock attached to it.
What we actually do
Two strands, and they feed each other. We build our own software products — designed, hosted, supported and run by us. And we invest in early software companies, in small amounts, without asking for control or setting anybody’s timetable.
The connection is not incidental. Operating our own products in production is where our opinions about software come from, and those opinions are the only thing we bring to a company we have invested in that is worth more than the cheque.
How we ship
Narrow and deep. A capability goes in when we understand it well enough to make it simple, and when a second one turns out to be the same idea in different clothes, the two converge and the older path is removed. That discipline is why our software stays learnable by the people who were handed the job last week and have a different day job.
Data
Our systems hold records that belong to other people. We treat that as a custodial duty: least access, encrypted in transit and at rest, production access restricted and audited, and no sale, brokerage, advertising or model training on customer data. Set out in full in our privacy policy.
